We Dream of Genie
Saturday May 17th 2008, 2:29 pm

Fausto is the reigning expert on General Hostpital (and Bonnie Tyler, but that is something altogether different). Imagine his surprise to learn that our recent move to Maine brought him steps closer to none other than Miss Laura Spencer herself, actress Genie Francis. Francis lives in Belfast, Maine and owns a home decor store, The Cherished Home. Visit her on the web at www.thecherishedhome.com .
Genie, if you are reading this: Miss Laura Weber Baldwin Spencer Cassadine Spencer, get yourself back to GH! Your kids are a mess!

The Noyes Brain Tumor Foundation
Saturday May 17th 2008, 1:34 pm

The Blue Elephant is excited to be involved with a local non-profit organization called the Noyes Brain Tumor Foundation. The Noyes family have become good friends of ours, and we are proud to be helping with their upcoming fundraiser on September 10th at the Holiday Inn by the Bay. The event this year will be extra special as we will be honoring the memory of Matthew Noyes who passed away in April. The Noyes Brain Tumor Foundation supports brain tumor research at St. Judes Hostpital, where Matt recieved excellent care. For more information on the Foundation, visit www.thenoyesbraintumorfoundation.com . Blue Elephant Cafe is currently selling helping hands to benefit the NBTF. Stop in and talk to Reuben and Fausto about donating, and we’ll give you a hand and put you on our wall of fame.
Tiempo Libre
Saturday May 17th 2008, 12:49 pm

We saw a great Cuban group on April 26 at the Merriall Auditorium called Tiempo Libre. They played authentic Cuban music accompanied by the Portland Symphony, which made for an interesting combination. The whole time, we couldn’t help feeling like we knew these guys, and it dawned on us later that Fausto’s cousins Vanessa and Eliana had partied into the wee hours of the morning with them in Philadelphia on there previous tour. What a small world. They signed copies of their new album for Sophia after the show, and were a nice group of guys. Go see them!
Visit them on the web at www.tiempolibremusic.com .

Simply You, Too and Mary Bean
Friday May 16th 2008, 4:10 am
In March, Blue Elephant had the pleasure of catering two Main Street events simultaneously: the opening of Saco’s newest boutique Simply You, Too (www.simplyyoufashions.com), and the opening of a new exhibit at the Saco Museum, Mary Bean: The Factory Girl or the Victim of Seduction. We enjoyed being a part of these events, and creating menus and displays that reflected the themes of the events. Check out the photos above to see how they looked. Special congratulations to Andrea Cochrane at the Saco Museum (www.sacomuseum.org) for coordinating a fascinating exhibit, and to Lori Irving on the opening of her fabulous new store! Mary Bean could have used a dress or two from Lori, but if you saw the exhibit you know that this was the least of her problems…
Ethan Strimling for Congress
Friday May 16th 2008, 3:16 am
Over the past few months, Team-Ethan has been “getting local” all over the 1st District. What do they mean by “get local?” Basically, Ethan spends the day talking with Maine families and enjoying their community with them. The team recently stopped by the Blue Elephant in Saco, and introduced themselves. Reuben, Fausto and customers in the Blue Elephant that afternoon enjoyed meeting Ethan and his team. More recently, Blue Elephant teamed up with Vic & Whit’s in Saco and provided food for a meet and greet in the new wine tasting room at Vic & Whit’s on Main Street. Ethan & Co. were in our area again this week, filming a new commercial.

Zaffie wins the bet!
Thursday May 15th 2008, 5:37 pm

Today during the lunch rush, Andrea Morshead of Precision Screw Machine Products and Zaffie Hadiaris of The Zaffie Show disagreed over the name of a redheaded British actress. A cup of coffee was the wager. After much deliberation, Reuben settled the bet: Zaffie was correct. It was NOT Deborah Kerr. It was Maureen O’Hara, star of Miracle on 34th Street, The Parent Trap, and Only The Lonely. Congratulations, Zaffie! We will make sure Andrea sticks to the deal.

Blue Elephant Cafe
Wednesday May 14th 2008, 11:20 pm

Once upon a time, a boy named Fausto went shopping with his mother in Philadelphia. When they returned home, Fausto’s mother noticed that he was hiding something in his hand. She pried his fingers open, and a small blue elephant appeared. “Elly” became Fausto’s best imaginary playmate, and the two of them begin a series of adventures that eventually led them to southern Maine.
In 2007 Fausto and Elly moved to Saco with Reuben and Sophia. They decided to open a catering company and café at Pepperell Square. After much deliberation, Fausto and Reuben decide to name the venture “The Blue Elephant”, as Elly has brought much luck to Fausto in his life.
Our café is a place for good food, good company and happy times. Stop in and visit us any time and see who is here and say hello. Breakfast is served all day, and we offer daily specials on good, healthy food. Feel free to check your email or read a book over coffee and an afternoon snack, gather your colleagues for a meeting, or bring a friend for a quiet chat. We look forward to seeing you soon!
