The boys from the Blue Elephant went to see Suzanne Vega at the end of August. We noticed that the t-shirts at the merchandise table were Vega’s own spin on the “I heart New York” theme, and read “I heart S V”. It occurred to us that Suzanne’s initials were the same as our daughter’s, and had Suzanne sign one of them for her. It is hanging up at the cafe - come check it out!
It was a great show - Suzanne’s latest album is called Beauty and Crime, and Reuben highly recommends it. Visit her on the web at www.suzannevega.com and buy a copy…
The Blue Elephant will be featured on the show “207″ next week! Here are a couple of photos from the rehearsal. We’ll post the link next week when the show airs. Don’t miss us on Tuesday, 9/9/08 at 7pm on channel 6.
Visit Illusions Salon at Pepperell Square for all of your wedding and special events beauty needs! Illusions is two doors down from the Blue Elephant in Saco, and we see their excellent work firsthand every day.
The Candy Garden has quickly become a fixture on Main Street since opening in 2007. They do all kinds of great gifts, including wedding favors, gift baskets, and much more. Reuben was also pleased to discover that they also have a wide selection of Jelly Belly Jellybeans, as well as Fausto’s favorite chocolate covered pretzels. Check them out when you are downtown.
Blue Elephant Events & Catering will celebrate its 1st anniversary on August 21st. We are truly grateful to everyone who has supported the catering company and cafe since our opening in 2007. Thank you everyone, for your support! We are enjoying working with you.
We had an impromptu celebration last week. Thanks to TravelWise’s Beth Rogers and Edible Delights for the cake! Also, click the link below the photos for a PDF article about Blue Elephant from a local business review.

Fausto and Reuben would like to thank our great staff, who work with us rain or shine often into the early hours of the morning. This photo was taken late into a double shift, and everyone is still smiling. Thanks, guys!
Blue Elephant Events and Catering is pleased to be working at the Kennebunk Land Trust! The Elephant recently catered a wedding reception at the beautiful Emmons Preserve in Kennebunkport, one of many sites included in the KLT. We highly recommend checking out this wonderful new facility tucked into the corner of a natural meadow. The outdoor setting is large and airy and hidden behind walls of beautiful mature trees. The new building has cozy space for smaller parties, with a large stone fireplace, new restroom and kitchen facilities, and ample parking. For more information, visit www.kennebunklandtrust.org .
Blue Elephant Events & Catering has had the pleasure of catering several events this month in Kennebunkport, and would like to congratulate Andrea and Evan, and Amara and Keith on their recent weddings. We had a great time putting these events together, and wish all of you the best.
Blue Elephant is happy to announce that it will be working with the Danforth, one of Portland’s most elegant historic event sites.
“It’s not just the doorknobs that are beautiful at The Danforth. The decor, the service, and the atmosphere all make it one of Portland’s most discreet pleasures. It is also one of the most exquisite.”
Edgar Allen Beem, Downeast Magazine, April 2002
For more information on The Danforth, please contact Blue Elephant, or visit www.danforthmaine.com .
Blue Elephant is excited to be participating in the opening of Biddeford’s newest art gallery! Kymara Lonergan, with the help of her husband Eric Lonergan, is using more than 4,000 square feet of aluminum foil to turn her new space in the North Dam Mill into Andy Warhol’s Silver Factory of the 1960s. The opening show is Supernova: Artists from the Silver Factory. Featuring Ultra Violet, Billy Name, and Bibbe Hansen.
Opening gala Friday, July 11, at 6 PM at The Kymara Gallery, North Dam Mill, 2 Main Street, Biddeford, Maine. Be there!
Just a note to state the obvious. The flowers around Saco’s Main Street look fantastic. Thanks to Saco Spirit and (Johanna Hoffman in particular) for all of the great color! We all appreciate it.
Sir John Templeton died today. He was a good guy, who spent a great deal of his life dedicated to the search for a higher purpose. Reuben worked for the John Templeton Foundation in Pennsylvania, and enjoyed being briefly part of his journey. For more information on Sir John and his work, visit www.templeton.org. It is good stuff.
Our new friend Andrea Cochrane announced recently that she will be leaving her position as the director of the Saco Museum this summer. Andrea has decided that her true calling is to work with young people, and is leaving Maine to work with Americorps in New Orleans. We will all miss her, and wish her well in this new phase of her life. She says she plans to keep us in touch with her blog. We promise to send photos of the snow.
